Lightweight Aggregates

From initial characterisation of material properties to large scale industrial testing Mineral Solutions have successfully managed a research led project into the development of alternatives to currently available lightweight aggregates.

With a major client, we have developed an expanded pumice that offers an alternative to perlite. Our material has no respirable silica minerals, no dust and is spherical, pouring easily into awkward spaces, making this an ideal material for thermal insulation in construction. The resilient nature of the grains also makes this a suitable lightweight aggregate for concrete products and as a growing medium for the horticultural industry.

In conjunction with the project partners we are now seeking funding for the commissioning of a plant for the commercial production of this material.
